Tournament center
Most services related to
this tournament are located at the WUGC2004 Tournament Center
at Kupittaa. The Tournament Center is built inside an indoor
track&field arena and includes first-aid facilities, the
tournament restaurant, an internet café, merchandise sales stands,
info stands, a car and bicycle rental, photo service, laundry
service and the media center.
"The Flying Plate" Restaurant
At the heart of the tournament center is the tournament
restaurant, called "The Flying Plate", where premium dinner and
breakfast (excluding hotel guests) is served. The restaurant opens
for breakfast at 6 am and closes after dinner at 10 pm. During the
daytime, coffee, sandwiches and snacks can be bought.
Internet access
There are three ways for you to access the Internet
during at the tournament.
WLAN. The tournament center features a
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) which you can use to get fast
Internet access using your own laptop. At the Bazaar you can buy
subscription vouchers for 5€ per day or 25€ per week. The same
network also operates and provides access at many other
locations in downtown Turku and the riverside.
Internet cafe. At the tournament
center there will be an internet cafe where you can read your
E-mail or browse the web. Access for 30 minutes costs 1.50€.
Hotels. Most hotels offer Internet
access to their guests. Ask at the reception of your hotel for
further information.
"The Bazaar"
The tournament center features a Bazaar where
various shops are set up.
Gaia shop
The Gaia shop sells all the official WUGC2004
merchandise, featuring a wide range of sportswear and accessories.
Here you can also buy Discraft discs and other exclusive
items. Cash, Visa and MasterCard accepted.
Hertz car and bike rentals
At the Bazaar, you can rent bicycles and cars from
Hertz. The tournament center is both the pick-up an drop-off
locations for these cars and bikes. Bicycles cost 10€ per day or
50€ per week. For car rentals, you should use
this form to reserve in advance, because cars may be
already sold out by the time of the tournament (it's peak tourist
season).
Epson Photo Center
Epson Photo Center operates at the Bazaar where you can
buy photos taken by our tournament photographer. Here you can also
print your own photos.
Päämies Desk Mobile Store
Here you can buy prepaid phone connections, mobile
phones and accessories. At this stand, you can also print photos
taken with your mobile phone free of charge.
Laundry service
A laundry service will operate at the Bazaar. You can
drop-off your entire teams laundry (no dry cleaning) in a bag every
day by 8 pm and pick them up clean the next morning after 8
am.
Medical and health services
First-aid medical facilities are also located at the
tournament center. One doctor and several professional paramedics
will take care of players' minor injuries. More serious cases will
be transported to a local hospital.
Here you will be able to get a massage during the
tournament. There will be 10 masseurs present from early morning to
late evening. A 30 minute massage costs 5€. If you reserve a
massage for the whole team, there will be a 20% discount.
