Russia open

Profile
We have players from 5 different clubs. 8 of them are
from team JuPiter, the current and 5 time consecutive Russian
national champion. Our team roster includes 5 of the 6 top Russian
team captains, a talented 18-year-old junior, three or four women's
and junior's team coaches, an ex-football-goalkeeper, Ukrainians
who live and work in Russia, a Hawaiian stranded in Russia for 10
years, the star of a Snickers Commercial, and our most experienced
player who has been hiding out in Sweden studying Swedish
tactics.
Goal for Worlds
As with every other team we want to improve our
ranking. We're going to work hard in every game and get as much
experience as possible.
Associated Club Team
JuPiter (St.Petersburg), Dolgorukie and Sokol (both
from Moscow), Novgorod Bears (Novgorod) and Kudesniki Diska (Nizhni
Novgorod).
Worlds Experience
Our first and the only team experience was at the last
World championships in Heilbronn, Germany in 2000 where we finished
15th. Four players from that team went to Worlds to Hawaii in 2002,
these were Yaroslav "R" Petrenko, Eric "Hawaiian" Reppun, George
"Yegor" Fedorov and Anatoly "Tolya" Vasilyev.
Major Tournaments
Won The national team has never won any international
tournaments, but some of the players that play for the
St.Petersburg team JuPiter are 5-time national champions and have
won many international indoor, beach and outdoor tournaments in
Eastern Europe.
How Many Ultimate Teams in Your Country in Your
Division
It differs every year, but at the moment there are 6
competitive teams.
Players to Look Out For
Watch out for ALL the "Crazy Ivans"
Team's Best Receiver
Watch out for our team rookie, recently named most valuable
player in his first ever tournament at the All Russia, Moscow
Frisbee Festival, May 2004. Won't tell you who it is; you'll have
to guess at the end of games.
Team's Favorite Spike or Non-Spike
Our favorite spike would have to be the hedgehog with the fruit
punch running a close second, and our least favorite the
tent-spike.
The Best Thing About Ultimate Is
Indoor layouts into the cast-iron radiators at the sides of the
gym in the depths of winter. Layouts in deep snow on the ice of
frozen lakes for a white disc that disappears until spring thaw.
Layouts on astroturf for a disc that just got blown by swirling
winds from one side of the field to the other and back again.
Layouts in the rain and the mud for a disc that was already out of
bounds anyway. Layouts in the sand for a flashlight disc in the
dead of night in the summertime at a nudist beach. In short,
layouts on any surface except grass. It's illegal to layout on the
nice grass in Russia.
