Netherlands women

The Netherlands Women's Team has been selected
from different club teams in the Netherlands and for many of the
players this is the first year they have played together. For some,
Worlds will be their first international tournament.
In true Dutch tradition, they have been
building themselves up on a diet of cheese sandwiches and hagelslag
(chocolate sprinkles). Half of the team are vegetarians so they may
get tired towards the end of the week…but they always carry an
emergency lettuce leaf for that late-game energy boost.
Their approach to Worlds is founded on the
knowledge that the team is stronger than any one individual. The
Dutch women are an inclusive team where every member is valued and
respected and they hope to demonstrate their commitment to each
other at the championship.
Whilst the team has yet to win it's first
major championship, notable individual achievements to date
include
Junior Harskamp Gymnast of the Year –
1985 – Marjolein Reidsma
C-bis Cup Runner-Up – 2000 – Maaike
Langeveld
Achievement of Vomiting a Recognisable Meal
out of her Nose, Skunks Ultimate – 1994 – Rebecca Humphries
Unbelievably Nice Person - 2001, 2002
and 2004 – Jeltsje Hettinga (we don't talk about 2003)
When the Netherlands Has the Disc:
Marjolein – is currently being groomed
as the new Nicolette Verheem of Dutch Ultimate, unfortunately dress
sense like hers can’t be taught, it's instinct!
Gitta – also known as 50Guilder
– is the resident homeboy of the team.
Nan – younger than her age may suggest,
has the scariest face on field. If you look her in the eye, your
catching hands may turn to stone.
Kate – is without doubt the best dancer
on the team and can hypnotise you with her hips.
Joke – this woman is no joke!!
