Denmark women

Profile

Denmark has not had a strong tradition in Women’s Ultimate and only have four women’s teams playing in the country. At the European Club Championships 2003 they finished 7th with not too many close games against more formidable opponents. However, they do have a strong recent addition in former American Kate Poneta, a lanky 6 footer with layout skills on offense and poaching ability on defense.

They may also gain advantage from a strong Open squad as teams from the same country tend to match on the same level as their compatriots. Look for this team to hold some surprises.

Associated Club Teams

Flying Circus, Spinners, DiscFlyers and KFK (Copenhagen).

No previous worlds experience as a team.

Major Tournaments Won

Best finish as 7th in last summers EUCC in Fontenay le Comte.

Denmark on Offense

“The offense is based on few fundamentals, but with a variety of twists and turns. Most players can play the entire field, which adds a great expansion possibility and calls for a lot of changes in the course of a game.”

Team's Best Thrower

No one stands out especially. The team is characterized by overall great skill in both throwing and catching the disc. Several players handle the pull.

Team's Best Receiver

Both Birgit Rasmussen#6 and Kate Poneta#11 seem to score a lot of points for Denmark. Birgit always finding the open spot in the zone and Kate using her great height to Danish advantage.

Denmark on Defense

“The zone d is a great weapon for this team, forcing many teams to turnover the Disc, where they normally wouldn't. It's tight and quick, also on the following offense! But the team isn't limited to zone play only, mastering also man-man (or woman-woman actually!) and the occasional mismatch.”

Players on Defense:

“No one stands out especially on this team, but the more experienced players are Helle Kjærsgaard #2, Betina Højgaard #21 and Marie Staalsø, #3 They represent teams from all over the country, resulting in a great variety of playing styles and tactics.
