Denmark open

Profile
Denmark has a strong seed at #5 and will have
to deal with tough matchups in Great Britain, Japan and the
Netherlands. Denmark took home a somewhat surprising third place at
the EUCC which helped them for seeding here. At Nations Cup in July
2004 they took 4th place, losing a close game to host Sweden 14-12
and blasting pool rival Holland 17-6. They narrowly lost to a
strong Great Britain team 15-12 but got demolished by Finland.
“The open team is not at all surprised with being the 5th seed and
we look forward to proving it right. It's always difficult to
compare seeding to nations you rarely play like USA, Canada and
Australia,” says team representative Lars Jakobsen.
Like Great Britain, the Danish Ultimate scene
has been growing strong recently in its 20th year of experience.
This year the country has seen record numbers of players and club
teams compete.
They will be here to fight hard and keep the
Danish profile rising.

Players to Look Out For
Amongst the many profiles are the two pairs of
brothers, the Bakkegaards and the Thomesens. The
first representing the new generation of fast, highly skilled elite
ultimate players in Denmark and the latter representing experience
and overall tactical sence. Other profiles are Thor Møller
on aggressive, fast paced offence and Jakob Juhl on
experienced defence.
Denmark on Offense
“Offense is played with great patience and dedication to the chosen
strategy, but without sacrificing the opportunity for a quick
adjustment to any given defense or the deep throw to an open man in
the zone. Strategic variety is great and the team makes good use of
both simple, old school tactics and newer, more advanced plays.
Several plays will be suited specifically for Worlds and the
opponents in the first round.”
“Jesper Snorgaard #5 plays with London
Fire, but we do consider him to be Danish, and would like to make
good use of his knowledge of the British players and style of play
when facing Great Britain in the opening round pool.”
Team's Best Thrower
Several players stand out with great throwing skill, but
playing head coach Henrik Thomesen seems to master all types
of throws with great precision. Thor Møller is also to be
watched as a playmaker always around the disc on offense.
Team's Best Receiver
Profile receivers are Svend Andreasen, adding both height
and weight to infights in the zone, and Mads Bakkegaard all
over the field, with great agility, superhuman jumping power and
glue-like hands.
Denmark on Defense
“This year’s defensive line has both experienced veterans and young
blood. The first represented by players such as
Jakob Juhl
#7, a high-level competition player for over 15 years with
great overall understanding of the game, and the latter by the
always-airborne
Jesper Snorgaard #5 and
Allan Larsen
#4 who never give up, no matter how long the point.” “Many
people say Denmark is better on defense and maybe they're right.
Defense is always saturated with extreme lust for the block, no
matter when in the game, no matter the opponent. This often results
in surprising comebacks from otherwise inevitable defeats.
Strategies include everything in the book.”
Team's Favorite Turnover
The foot block on the final point.
Team's Favorite Spike or Non-Spike
No one is above the spike, especially when on
a good roll, but Jesper Bakkegaard seems to do it with
pleasure!
The Best Thing About Ultimate Is
Winning. Definitely winning.
