Czech Republic mixed
Profile
The Czech Mixed team competes with intensity,
spirit and confidence and this has given a relatively small
Ultimate scene the ability to perform well against more experienced
players from more Ultimate-rich countries.
The Czechs will bring their good nature to
Finland where they face an unpredictable pool with Canada, Sweden,
Japan and France as potential powerhouses as well as potential
disappointments. One thing that may allow the Czech Republic to
retain their 6th seed is the clear fact that they are
comfortable and familiar playing with each other and have done do
for years.
Associated Club Teams
Prague Devils, Terrible Monkeys (Praha), FUJ
(Praha), Prague 7, Zluta zimnice (Praha), 3SB (Ceske Budejovice),
Atruc (Pilzn), Rollnici (Praha), and SPLT (Praha).
Worlds Experience
Open twice, Mixed once; or at lease that is
what they have told me. I have no idea when or where.
Major Tournaments Won
We have yet to win any 'major' tournaments
because haven’t competed in any as a team yet this year. We
finished 3rd at Euros last summer in France and won the spirit
prize!
How Many Ultimate Teams in Your Country in Your
Division
All of the teams in the official Czech league
are, at this date, technically considered Open and therefore the
answer is zero. However, there is rarely a point played in a Czech
Open tournament without at least one woman on the line. It is
tradition that most teams will try to match the number of women on
the line of the receiving team. There are12 Open teams competing in
tournaments this year in The Czech Republic.
Players to Look Out For, Literally
Mike “Mister Perfect” Blume, also known
as “Bone Crusher”: Former Basketball player who showers
before every match and broke the hand of the TD while marking at
Nuremburg last year (sorry Boris).
Honza “The Duck (Kacerr in Czech)”
Novak: Footballer with more hand blocks than Vishnu and
breakmark throws that make Dominik Hasek look like an open barn
door.
Tomas “USAIN Bolt” Radil: You won’t be
able to pick him out from the line but
you’ll know when you’re covering him by the
taste of Jamaican dust in your mouth.
Team's Best Thrower
Lenka: I can’t believe she just threw
that… Again…
Team's Best Receiver:
Eva: I can’t believe she just caught
that… Again…
Team's Favorite Turnover
Spiking the disk after a Callahan goal in
Europe. (editor’s note: in American college play, the rules
state that if a defensive player catches a pass in his team’s
goal-scoring endzone it is recognized instantly as a “Callahan” and
is counted as a score.)
Team's Favorite Spike or Non-Spike
Holding the disc and quietly thinking to
ourselves, “Wow that was lucky” while looking extremely
confident.
The Best Thing About Ultimate Is
The lack of ‘outside’ interests in ultimate
minimizes the need for a bureaucracy of rules and limitations in
the leagues and clubs which in turn puts the interests of the
players first.
ULTIMATELY, freedoms are given to the highly
talented, dedicated, and spirited players THEMSELVES to decide the
best way for THEM to enjoy THEIR sport each and every time they
step on the field. Oh wait… *sigh*
